När vi gjorde vår budgetplanering inför 2014 konstaterade vi, att tack vare stor ekonomisk hjälp från olika håll, hade möjlighet att utöka vår hjälp till behövande skolbarn i Kenya.

Vi hade genom kontakter med människor som vi känner sedan tidigare fått tips om en skola som tidigare inte hade några sponsorer.

Skolan är relativt ny och hade därför endast elever upp till klass fem.

Vi tog kontakt med skolan och bestämde en mötestid med skolledningen.

Vid detta möte fick vi reda på att man senare på dagen skulle ha en information om skolans verksamhet under 2014.

Inbjudna till denna informationsträff var representanter från kommunen, skolledningen, samtliga lärare samt familjemedlemmar till samtliga elever.

Samlingen skulle ske i kyrkan som fanns inom området och som var sammanslagen med skolan.

Vi hade vid mötet med skolledningen meddelat att vi kunde hjälpa femtio av de mest behövande med att finansiera deras skolgång. Detta uppskattades mycket av skolledningen. Man hade kanske tänkt sig att vi i bästa fall kunde stödja ett tiotal elever.

Den person som hos oss motsvarar kyrkorådets ordförande gjorde en förfrågan till Asta om hon kunde tänka sig att hålla ett tal vid informationsmötet. Eftersom Asta är van vid att tala om vår verksamhet i Kenya samtyckte hon till detta.

Strax innan mötet skulle börja kom ordföranden fram till Asta och sade till henne att hon absolut inte fick tala om att vi tänkte hjälpa barn ekonomiskt då detta skulle föranleda en storm av önskemål från föräldrarnas sida om ekonomisk hjälp.

Så situationen var denna att Asta skulle hålla tal inför en fullsatt kyrka på engelska, vilket inte är vårt naturliga modersmål, och att hon inte fick säga något om vad vår verksamhet i Kenya gick ut på.

Jag avundades inte henne på något sätt.

Asta höll ett fantastiskt tal utan att nämna något om vår verksamhet och fick kraftfulla applåder.

We had contacts with people we know already received tips about a school that had no sponsors before.

The school is relatively new and had therefore only students up to grade five.

We contacted the school and set a meeting time with the school management.

At this meeting, we found out that later that the day there would be held an information meeting about the school's activities during 2014.

Representatives from the municipality , the school administration, the teachers and the families of all students were invited to that briefing.

The meeting would take place in the neigbouring church which had a close relation to the school.

During our meeting with the school administration could we announce that we could help fifty of the most needy pupils to finance their learning. This was much appreciated by the school management. They had perhaps imagined that we, at best, could support a dozen students.

The person who was the church council president made ​​an inquiry to Asta if she was willing to give a speech at the meeting. Since Asta is used to speak about our activity in Kenya , she agreed to this.

Shortly before the meeting would start came chairman and told Asta she absolutely must not speak about that we came to help children financially as this would cause a storm of desire of parents for financial help.

So the situation was this that Asta would make a speech for a full church in English, which is not our native language, and that she could not say anything about what our activities in Kenya was all about.

I did not envy her in any way.

Asta gave a wonderful speech without mentioning anything about our business and got strong applause.
