Jeremiah

JEREMIAH
We have got several thousand crowns of an associacion to give to an orphanage in Kenya. Through one of the hotel staff we were able to go and visit the orphanage who have abandoned children. Parents could not because of various reasons be able to take care of their children.
We travelled a local bus 7-8 km through a dangerous area with a high risk of robbery to get from the hotel to the orphanage. There we met the matron who had a 2½ months old baby in her arms. His name was Jeremiah.
The
story behind Jeremiah is that he was born about 2 days before Christmas
by a very young woman who could not take care of him. She
had planned to go to a large department store, where only rich people
can shop, so she went there just before the store opened. There were some people standing and waiting for the doors to open. She quickly went up to a woman, handed over the baby and ran crying away from there.
What could this woman do? There was rush around her about what she would do with the baby. She was given an advice to leave the baby to an orphanage and there was a person who helped her with it. When
they came to the orphanage the matron was hesitant about accepting a
newborn because she did not have the finances to buy food for him. She took him anyway and gave him mashed potatoes mixed with water.
He was very weak and we saw that he was malnourished. Moreover, he had a fever and infected eyes. We told that we had money we could help children at an orphanage with and we asked if we could buy milk and bottle. One tin of milk that costs 60 crowns would be enough for 5-6 days so therefore we bought so much so it could be enough for the next few months. During our visit two weeks later we could see he ate his milk with delight, holding his bottle and we could see that he looked healthier.
After 7 months, it was time to go to Kenya again and we wanted to visit the orphanage and Jeremiah. To our surprise, he came out and went towards us - 11 months old.
Matron said, 'You have saved his life!'
